Watch: ‘The Simpsons’ Takes on ‘Frozen’ in Holiday Couch Gag

It’s only fitting that the biggest animated show is paying homage to the biggest animated film.

The couch gag for this year’s “Simpsons” holiday special contains an “obligatory ‘Frozen’ reference” one minute and fifteen seconds into the opening credits.

The “Frozen” riff will precede this Sunday’s holiday episode, titled “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas.”

In the clip, the family meets Lisa on a frozen pond in front of their icy couch. When Bart hurls a snowball at his little sister, Lisa channels her inner Elsa, materializing an ice castle that grows instantaneously, trapping Bart high in the sky (ay caramba, indeed).

However, it’s Homer who steals the show as Olaf when he eats his own carrot nose

'Citizenfour, 'Vivian Maier,' 'Last Days in Vietnam' Win 2014 IDA Documentary Awards

International Documentary Association revealed the 2014 IDA Documentary Awards winners Friday night in Los Angeles.
'Citizenfour' 'Citizenfour'

Hosted by Carol Leifer at the Paramount Theatre, the night's top honors predictably went to Best Feature winner "Citizenfour," directed by Laura Poitras. Last year, she received IDA's Courage Under Fire Award back when her Oscar-shortlisted Snowden doc was still shrouded in mystery. (Full list of winners below.)
Two other Oscar-shortlisted documentaries also got boosts at the IDA Awards: "Last Days in Vietnam" editor Don Kleszy picked up the Best Editing prize, and "Finding Vivian Maier" scribes John Maloof & Charlie Siskel took Best Writing.

Christopher Nolan For Ready Player One? Get the Latest

Christopher Nolan For Ready Player One? Get the Latest image
We’ve been talking about the upcoming movie adaptation of Ernest Cline’s New York Times best-selling novel, Ready Player One, for quite some time. The screenplay, written by Zak Penn, promises to be one that fans of the book will love, as Penn has gotten Cline’s blessing. While the movie may have some obstacles to face as it tries to tackle the various rights issues that will arise from a story that relies so heavily on references to other television shows, movies, and games, it seems the film has taken another huge step forward in the process. We’ve got a complete screenplay, and now it seems that we might have a director.

Tracking Board reports that Warner Brothers has officially extended an offer to Christopher Nolan to direct Ready Player One.

It’s an interesting choice. Christopher Nolan is coming off the huge drama, Interstellar, and he’s been the brains behind other films like Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy. So when I think of Nolan directing Ready Player One, I can’t help but compare the world described in Cline’s book to the world Nolan created in Inception. Judging based on that, he can certainly take on the task of manipulating reality.

One of the great things about Ready Player One, though, is its ability to straddle the boundaries between a serious story and a goofy, lighthearted tale with an impressive number of pop culture references. While a great deal of that tone will come from the script--and it seems that Zak Penn worked quite closely with Cline as he wrote the it, so there should be no problem there--the film's director will have a big hand in the mood and feel of the story. If Nolan adds his trademark brooding to the movie, he could lose part of what makes this book so special.

Ready Player One's protagonist, Wade Watts, aka Parzival, isn’t your typical Nolan-esque hero. He’s a kid. He’s a geek. He’s awkward. "Dark" and "brooding" aren’t really words I’d use to describe Wade. At all. Of course it hasn’t been confirmed that Nolan has accepted the job, but if he does, we need the funny, silly, and awkward parts of Wade kept in the film. Wade Watts is a kid goofing around in a virtual reality landscape, not a caped vigilante seeking justice after the murder of his parents.

My perfect Ready Player One director choice would be someone like Edgar Wright, giving the film adaptation a similar tone to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. If not, maybe Nolan's expansive, imaginative directorial vision will serve him well in capturing a vast, intricate landscapes.

'America's Next Top Model': Cycle 21 winner dishes on favorite photos, toughest critique, and what it's like to 'be on top'

TOP-MODELnm

Though tooch toppled booch on America’s Next Top Model‘s 20th cycle—the first season when creator and host Tyra Banks invited guys into the competition—cycle 21 saw some serious contenders among the male models. In fact, only one beautiful lady stood before Banks as ANTM entered its two-episode finale.
Would a man finally be on top? (Spoiler warning: The following post contains details about ANTM‘s cycle 21 finale. Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the episode.)
The cycle’s penultimate episode saw frat boy Adam rally to take the top photo for a second week in a row. With Will called second, Keith found himself in the bottom two with sole remaining lady Lenox. After Lenox’s total score fell well below Keith’s, Tyra was shocked to discover the series would have its first-ever all-male finale.
With three very different models, who would smize his way to victory? Texan dance instructor Will, who struggled with his competitors’ biases against a gay guy potentially taking the title? Athletic, seductive Keith, who was competing in honor of his late father? Or Adam, the strong, screaming type who had run afoul of Tyra after she smelled alcohol on his breath at judges’ panel?

And America’s Next Top Model is…

KEITH!

America's Next Top Model Cycle 21 Finale Recap: And the Winner Is...

Finale Part One: The Last Girl Standing
Thank heavens Tyra Banks went to Harvard Business School. Otherwise, the groundbreaking new word “beautytainment” might not have entered the pop-culture lexicon during tonight’s America’s Next Top Model Cycle 21 finale.
Oh yes, you know Ty-Ty had to cross-promotionally synergize the bejeezus out of the two-hour installment. First, she brought back the season’s nine eliminated hopefuls, then had the four remaining finalists choose “teams” and shoot spots for various products in her new “Tyra” makeup line. (#IsThatARealThing?)
We didn’t immediately get to see the finished product, and instead jumped right ahead to a Guess? fashion shoot photographed by creative director Yu Tsai that seemed designed to bring out Lenox’s “but I don’t do sexy!” insecurities. Naturally, Tyra was hiding backstage with judges Miss J and Kelly Cutrone, picking “best shots” in real time, and when Lenox’s baffling black-and-white profile image — complete with disappearing chin — popped onto the screen, you knew she was Wonder-Bread-in-the-Broiler toast.
Adam, meanwhile, grabbed “Best Photo” for the second time in a row — thanks to a striking black-and-white image that would’ve stood out (in a good way) in any fashion mag — and suddenly, the Guy Formerly Known as “Alcohol Breath” looked like a potential threat to perceived front-runners Will and Keith.
A final one-two punch of Nylon magazine photo shoot and Lie Sang Bong runway show provided the final piece of the puzzle, and as much as I felt Will’s body of work over the entire season made him a shoo-in, his stiff movement and the “12 hours of Black Friday shopping” glaze in his eyes opened the door for an upset. (And anyway, if body of work was the deciding factor, where was Raelia in the Top 4?) As Tyra noted, Keith mugged just a little at the end of the catwalk — but never actually threatened the audience with a slop bucket of melted Kraft American Singles the way Adam did on his second pass. (Did he maybe have a martini in between his first and second turns on the catwalk?)
In a righteous turn of events, Adam placed third — an admirable rally for a frat bro/grad-school dropout who never had the benefit of getting edited to look like a champ.
And while Will’s more inviting energy and sweet smile made his Tyra cosmetics ad the clear choice over Keith’s stony-faced sexuality, it was painfully evident based on the carefully edited “overall body of work” review that the former football player would eke out the title over the tall gay glass of water.
Thus, the following prizes…
4th Place
Lenox
3rd Place
Adam
2nd Place
Will
Cycle 21 Champ

'Interstellar,' 'The Hobbit,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' on Oscars shortlist for Best Visual Effects

Oscars Interstellar The Hobbit Guardians of the Galaxy entertainment 13579086 story
Ten films have made the cut with the academy's Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee. Now, all visual effects branch members will have the opportunity to view 10-minute excerpts from these shortlisted works on Jan. 10 to determine the five films that make the Oscar ballot.

Even though this category used to belong to summer blockbusters, 10 of the last 14 Visual Effects Oscars have gone to a Best Picture nominee, including the last six in a row: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Avatar," "Inception," "Hugo," "Life of Pi" and "Gravity."
That is great news for "Interstellar," Christopher Nolan's technologically audacious thriller about space travel. It is the overwhelming frontrunner in this race.
The comic book crime fighters still in the running are: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,”    “Guardians of the Galaxy” and  “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” However, no comic book movie has won Best Visual Effects since "Spider-Man 2" in 2004. Indeed, it's the only such film to win this race competitively. "Superman" won a Special Achievement Award for its effects in 1978.
Peter Jackson's “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” is a good bet to make the final five. After all, each of the three "Lord of the Rings" films won this category, and the first two parts of his "Hobbit" trilogy contended.
Battling robots have also done well in this category in recent years, with "Real Steel" and all three "Iron Man" movies reaping bids. The first two "Transformer" films did, which bodes well for   “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
"Godzilla" overcame bad buzz to do well worldwide. The other three films in the bake-off are: “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Maleficent” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.”
What do you think is going to win Best Visual Effects? Vote below using our easy drag-and-drop menu.

Watch: Lupita Nyong'o Used to Braid Hair as Her 'Side Hustle' (Video)

Sometimes a girl just needs to make a little cash while in college. Or at least try.

Before Lupita Nyong'o scored an Oscar, landed her first Vogue cover or fronted a Lancome campaign, she was just an undergrad at Hampshire College and grad student at Yale School of Drama. And if you were lucky to be her BFF then, it's likely she would have braided your hair, according to a new short film from Vogue.
PHOTOS Lupita Nyong'o: The Making of a Style Star
The three-minute video shows the actress, Vogue's latest cover star, braiding her pals' hair while recalling the days when braiding hair was her "side hustle." Even though she made posters to advertise her skills, she notes that she never made any money because she "never had the heart to charge anyone." Instead, it became one of her favorite hobbies, especially in class.
In case you're wondering what qualifies you to become Nyong'o's next BFF (and to eventually get your hair braided), she shared: "I think I'm just attracted to people who are honest and expressive. I like playful people as well, people who are not afraid of their inner child." Well, anytime you want to braid our hair, we're here for you, Lupita.

Mark Wahlberg Wants Pardon for Crimes

"I want people to remember my past so that I can serve as an example of how lives can be turned around and how people can be redeemed"

Marky Mark doesn't want a black mark any longer.
Actor Mark Wahlberg is asking Massachusetts for a pardon for assaults he committed in 1988 when he was a troubled teenager in Boston, saying he has dedicated himself to becoming a better person in his adult years so he can be a role model to his children and others.
The former rapper known as Marky Mark and a star of movies including The Departed and The Gambler, filed a pardon application with state officials Nov. 26. New England Cable News first reported on the application Thursday.

Box office preview: No new wide releases means more time on top for 'Mockingjay'

District-8_612x380.jpg vn

There aren’t any huge wide releases this weekend, which means there probably aren’t going to be any huge changes in the box office lineup—so Hunger Games, you can get comfortable.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 started off strong with a $121.9 million opening weekend and dropped a predictable 53 percent last weekend, down to $57 million. But even with that significant drop, it didn’t suffer in terms of its top five placement: Penguins of Madagascar and Horrible Bosses 2 both opened during the Hunger Games‘ second weekend, but didn’t even come close to Mockingjay’s earnings.
Although there aren’t any films opening in 1,000 or more theaters this weekend, there are a few new offerings: Horror movie Pyramid opens in about 550 theaters, Reese Witherspoon’s Wild opens in 21 locations, and Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs’ comedy Life Partners debuts in just three cinemas. None of those are expected to crack the top five—but these are:
1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 – $20 million
Mockingjay likely benefited from Thanksgiving crowds last week, but it won’t have that same advantage on this more ordinary weekend—one that also follows Black Friday, meaning people might not be as willing to shell out cash for movies after spending it on sales. It should drop about 65 percent, leaving it earning around $20 million its third weekend.
2. Penguins of Madagascar – $10.2 million
Penguins did not impress. While the previous three films in the Madagascar series all made at least $45 million their opening weekend, Penguins only made $25.4 million—enough to earn it the number two spot at the box office, but not a great opening considering its $132 million budget. Because of this, it’s a bit difficult to predict how well the film will do in its second weekend—will it follow in its predecessors’ steps and drop by just about 45 percent, or do worse? Judging by its weak opening, we’ll guess the latter.
3. Big Hero 6 – $9.4 million
A movie that didn’t disappoint Thanksgiving weekend? Big Hero 6, which only dropped 6 percent between Thanksgiving weekend and the weekend prior. Apparently, families were more interested in taking their kids to see the talked-about Disney film than Penguins, and that interest will help Big Hero stay strong at the box office. While it won’t experience as small of a decline this weekend—if only each weekend came after a holiday!—it should stay at around Penguins‘ level.
4. Interstellar – $7.9 million
Interstellar was the one (not-new) film in the top five that actually improved from one weekend to the next: The Christoper Nolan movie made $15.3 million the weekend of Nov. 21 and went up 2 percent, to $15.7 million, the weekend of Nov. 28. Moviegoers evidently took the extra time off to spend a few hours in the theater watching space (and Matthew McConaughey) go by, but they don’t have as much time this weekend—so Interstellar will probably experience a typical 50 percent decline.
5. Horrible Bosses 2 – $5.4 million
This sequel didn’t fare as well as the original, which made $28.3 million its opening weekend, but it still remains one of the only comedy choices at cinemas currently. People will go see it for that reason. But word-of-mouth isn’t too strong on this one, a factor that could hurt its potential earnings and lead to a more drastic decrease in ticket sales.

Sean Bean lives: TNT renews 'Legends' for season 2

legends.jpg

TNT’s Legends has been renewed—and Sean Bean’s character is still alive.
The cable network has given the spy show a second season, ordering another 10 episodes expected to launch next year. Moreover, this means the executable former Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Missing star finally gets to stick around for awhile in a U.S. show.
Perhaps the bigger surprise is the show itself is still alive — TNT has been on a cancelation streak lately, having recently axed Perception, Dallas and Franklin & Bash.
Legends is based on a book by Robert Littell and stars Bean undercover FBI agent who can transform himself into a completely different person for each job. The first season of Legends averaged 3.2 million viewers including DVR.

Ryan Reynolds Closing Deal to Get Deadly & Mouthy as 'Deadpool'

Deadpool
Back in September, some good news came from 20th Century Fox as the studio had finally decided to give Deadpool the feature film spin-off fans have been clamoring for ever since the character was disgraced with his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The casting was perfect with Ryan Reynolds in the role of Wade Wilson, but then the film went and sewed his mouth shut, literally. But now the Merc with a Mouth will be back the proper way with the film slated to hit theaters on February 12th, 2016, and Deadline has confirmed that Reynolds is closing his deal at Fox to reprise his role and give Deadpool his due diligence.

Game of Thrones,’ ‘True Detective,’ ‘Transparent’ Lead WGA TV Nominations

Iceland Production Incentives Game of Thrones
HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and Amazon’s “Transparent” were among the newbie standouts in this year’s TV nominees for the Writers Guild Awards.
Both shows earned noms for comedy series as well as for new series. “Transparent” made it a trifecta with a nom for episodic comedy, for “The Wilderness” seg penned by Ethan Kuperberg.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “True Detective,” CBS’s “The Good Wife,” AMC’s “Mad Men,” FX’s “Louie” and ABC’s “Modern Family” also grabbed two noms each.
“Modern Family” was not selected in the comedy series category but took two nods for the “The Cold” and “Three Dinners” segments. Similarly, “Boardwalk Empire” was not named for drama series but received nomimations for the “Devil You Know” and “Friendless Child” episodes.
“The Simpsons” had its usual strong showing with four bids for animation writing with “Bob’s Burgers” taking two.
The winners, based on voting by the 12,000 WGA members, will be named in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York on Feb. 14.
The WGA won’t see repeat winners in the key categories. The final season of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” won the WGA’s drama series trophy in February for the third straight year while NBC’s last season of “30 Rock” took the comedy series and Netflix’s “House of Cards”  copped the new series trophy.
“House of Cards” received a single nomination for top drama series.
Notable omissions included FX’s “Fargo” and Showtime’s “Homeland.”
The WGA TV awards eligibility period is between Oct. 1, 2013, and Sept.  30 except for longform, which covers for the 12 months prior to Nov. 30.

Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire to Headline New Show in Las Vegas 312 SHARES

As if the idea of Brooks & Dunn reuniting on stage isn't already too much excitement to handle – Reba McEntire is also joining the fun!

Caesars Entertainment announced in a news conference Wednesday that Reba and Brooks & Dunn will be the newest headliners to take up residency in Las Vegas, with a show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning in June.

The Colosseum was previously home to Céline Dion, who announced in August that she needed to postpone all shows indefinitely in order to focus on helping her husband, René Angélil, who is undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

Brooks & Dunn's reunion comes five years after they called it quits, following 20 years together, to pursue solo careers. The duo previously teamed up with McEntire on their 2008 hit "Cowgirls Don't Cry."

Ronnie Dunn followers on social media might have guessed something big was in the works: The singer recently posted the message "Don't touch that dial. More to come. 1. Reba signs with Nash Icon. 2. I am excited to be a part of Nash Icon ... working to do this in stages ....what's next ? RD."

Tickets for Reba, Brooks & Dunn: Together in Vegas go on sale Dec. 4.

Will Caitriona Balfe ('Outlander') continue Starz's winning streak at Golden Globes?'

North Korea Denies It Was Behind Sony Pictures Cyber-Attack

Sony Pictures

After more than a week of speculation that hackers with ties to North Korea were behind the massive cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, an official from the communist regime is claiming the country was not involved.
“Linking the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the official name of North Korea) to the Sony hacking is another fabrication targeting the country,” an unidentified North Korean diplomat told Voice of America. “My country publicly declared that it would follow international norms banning hacking and piracy.”
Earlier this week, a spokesman for North Korea’s United Nations delegation provided a cryptic statement to the BBC. When asked about the SPE incident, the official told the news service to “kindly just wait and see.”
The Nov. 24 attack on Sony Pictures’ computer systems disabled email and other internal systems for about a week. The hack — by a group that’s dubbed itself “Guardians of Peace” — has resulted in internal studio data being posted online, including salaries of top execs and private info of SPE employees.
Hackers also have disseminated data allegedly revealing the finances behind Sony’s upcoming film “The Interview,” a political satire starring James Franco and Seth Rogen set to bow Dec. 25. In the movie, the American journalists are tapped by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
In addition, five Sony films including Brad Pitt-starrer “Fury” and unreleased movies “Annie,” “Mr. Turner,” “Still Alice” and “To Write Love on Her Arms” were stolen in the attack and uploaded to piracy networks.
Speculation about North Korea’s involvement in the SPE cyber-attack has been centered on the country’s supposed retaliation for SPE’s release of “The Interview.” Sony is sticking with its plans to premiere the film on Christmas Day.
Previously, North Korea has expressed its displeasure with “The Interview.” Officials have denounced the movie as propaganda and have said the country would take “merciless counter-measures” against those associated with it. North Korean officials even sent a letter to the President Obama requesting that the White House block the movie’s release, according to VOA.
The FBI is leading an investigation into the SPE cyber-attack, and at least three other Hollywood studios are reassessing their information-technology security measures in the wake of the incident. In a memo to employees Tuesday, Sony Pictures Entertainment bosses Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal said they were “deeply saddened” about the breach, which they called “malicious criminal acts.”

Bond 24 Is ‘Spectre'; Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott, Monica Bellucci Join Cast

spectre
And, now we know. Director Sam Mendes has revealed the title for Bond 24 which will be Spectre. Mendes made the announcement this morning from the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios where the film will shoot along with London, Rome, Mexico City, Tangier, Erfoud and the Austrian Alps. The newest cast members are confirmed as Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Léa Seydoux. Daniel Craig will of course return as Bond along with Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes as the new M. Oscar winner Waltz will play Oberhauser, while Blue Is The Warmest Color‘s Seydoux is Madeleine Swann and Bellucci is Lucia Sciarra. (Bellucci is a nice get for the Bond folks who I hear have been eyeing her for a role for a long time.) Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s Bautista is playing Mr Hinx and Sherlock‘s Scott is Denbigh. Interstellar cinematograther Hoyte Van Hoytema will shoot the film with Mendes. And that same film’s Lee Smith is joining as editor. Also rolling in is the Aston Martin DB10 which was designed specially for Spectre. The logline for the new film is: “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”

The 100 Season 2 Episode 6 Review: “Fog of War”

The 100 2.06
Wow. Even after we missed a week, this week’s episode of The 100 has lost no momentum whatsoever.  Every episode they’ve done is more and more engrossing, and so much fun to watch. The best part about it is that I have no idea what’s coming next.
This week, Clarke takes a band of rescuers down to Mt. Weather, only for them to split up again. Jasper and Monty encounter more trouble on the inside, We all make some interesting discoveries about the civilization inside Mt. Weather, and Jaha and Kane are faced with an impossible choice.
I was really impressed with the “large group of rescuers” story for several reasons. The first is that it was a HUGE leap forward for Abbie’s character. Paige Turco has done a pretty good job in this series so far, but I’ve not been particularly interested in her character. However, after her time in the tent with Raven, she realized just how well the “kids” had been doing for themselves on the ground. I’ve never been more impressed OR interested in her story. Reason number two is the exploration of the new Finn/Clarke dynamic. Clarke thinks Finn has become someone else. A monster, perhaps (Maybe she and Octavia should talk about that)? I’m so glad that The 100 hasn’t fallen into the “CW Teen Drama” sub-genre, and seems to care more about creating real relationships and conflicts between the characters. The final reason, of course, is that scene with Bellamy and Octavia discovering Lincoln’s “condition”. I wasn’t always a fan of the Bellamy/Octavia sibling dynamic, but now that Octavia has become a warrior, it’s become ten times as interesting.
I thought the whole plot involving the two chancellors was excellent. Henry Ian Cusick and Isaiah Washington have given some of my favorite performances in the series thus far, and putting them together in a different scenario was a GREAT idea. However, the commander of the grounders stole the show. I didn’t really see that coming at all. She contrasted between an innocent girl doing a terrible task and an undercover grounder commander SO well. I was really impressed. IMDB did not yet list the name of that actress (by the time I had authored this post), but I’m betting she’s one to watch, folks. Just an excellent performance all around.
So, how about the fact that the people of Mt. Weather behind every single bad thing that happens out on the ground? Not only have we discovered that they are solely responsible for the creation of Reapers, but they are also the reason that the drop ship crashed, AND they manufactured the acid fog. This isn’t the first time the show has reminded me of The Walking Dead, but it does seem to be hinting at the “humans are more dangerous than supernatural environment” kind of story. Aside from dropping literally ALL of that information in one episode, we also found out that only some of the Mt. Weatherites are evil. I’ve been a fan of Raymond Barry’s performance as President Wallace since his first appearance, but he really stepped up his game in this episode. I was actually surprised that he didn’t turn out to be a bad guy. I mean, he might still, but I have to give him (the charater) props for standing up for Jasper and Monty. Somebody’s gotta.
I’m really impressed with where the show is going. I want to know more about every single one of these stories. I’m constantly surprised by the twists and the turns, and there’s not a single uninteresting character. Moral of the story is, if you’re not watching The 100, you should be.
What do you guys think? Did you guys enjoy this episode as much as I did? Let us know!

Pinewood Buys Full Control of Shepperton Studios Site

U.K. studio facilities giant Pinewood Shepperton, the British studio home of the James Bond franchise and the recently finished shoot of Star Wars: Episode VII, has bought out its joint venture partner in the Shepperton Studios site for $57.7 million (£36.8 million).
The deal with clients of Aviva Investors makes the company the sole owner of the partnership that owns the site.
In 2006, Aviva and Pinewood formed a 50-50 joint venture to hold and develop the land and buildings of Shepperton Studios under a 999 year lease. At that time, Aviva made a total payment of $47.8 million (£30.5 million) and a long term loan of $31.4 million (£20 million) to the partnership.

The partnership has invested some $15.4 million (£9.8 million) in new developments at Shepperton over the years and "has achieved consistent earnings growth through optimizing occupancy of the studio’s soundstages and ancillary production facilities," the company said.
Said Ivan Dunleavy, CEO of Pinewood Shepperton: "The purchase of Aviva’s interest in [the partnership] will give the company full control over the Shepperton site and future investment in the facilities there. We thank Aviva for their contribution and investment in Shepperton Studios over the past eight years."

Sony Hackers Reveal Seth Rogen and James Franco’s Pay for ‘The Interview

The cyber-attack that has plagued Sony Pictures uncovered a few more confidential details on Wednesday in what is growing into a publicity nightmare for the entertainment company.

Seth Rogen was reportedly paid $8.4 million for “The Interview,” according to new data obtained by Bloomberg, while his co-star James Franco earned $6.5 million for the comedy.

The film, which allegedly $44 million, also paid Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline $5,000 for a cameo.

“The Interview,” about two journalists tasked with assassinating North Korea dictator Kim Jong-un, is at the center of a recent hack attack at Sony which saw several new films leak online and the personal data and pay of the company’s top executives.

A spokesman for Sony said the FBI is probing the cyber-attack, one of the worst of its kind in corporate history.

The hackers, identifying themselves as “The Guardians of Peace,” have claimed that more information will be released about Sony in the coming days.

Chris Rock Pens Blistering Essay on Hollywood's Race Problem: "It's a White Industry

I was probably 19 when I first came to Hollywood. Eddie Murphy brought me out to do Beverly Hills Cop II and he had a deal at Paramount, so I remember going through the gates of the Paramount lot. He's in a Rolls-Royce, and he's not just a star, he's the biggest star in the world. Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer's office was in the same building as Eddie's office, and they would come to work every day with matching cars. Some days it would be the Porsches, and the next day it would be Ferraris. I was like the kid in A Bronx Tale. I got to just hang around when the biggest parts of show business were happening. I was only there a couple of weeks, but I remember every day Jeffrey Katzenberg would call Eddie Murphy — I don't even know if Eddie was calling him back — but it was like, "Jeffrey Katzenberg called again." "Janet Jackson just called." "Michael Jackson called." It was that crazy. I've still never seen anything like it. I had a small part in the movie, but my dream was bigger than that. I wanted to have a convertible Rolls-Royce with a fine girl driving down Melrose blasting Prince.

Now I'm not Murphy, but I've done fine. And I try to help young black guys coming up because those people took chances on me. Eddie didn't have to put me in Beverly Hills Cop II. Keenen Wayans didn't have to put me in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Arsenio didn't have to let me on his show. I'd do the same for a young white guy, but here's the difference: Someone's going to help the white guy. Multiple people will. The people whom I've tried to help, I'm not sure anybody was going to help them

Bill Cosby Sued for Sexually Assaulting 15-Year-Old Girl

As the number of sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby grows, the comedian is now facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims Cosby molested her when she was 15. In a suit filed at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, Judy Huth states that Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974, the Los Angeles Times reports. The lawsuit marks the first time the latest wave of accusations against Cosby has resulted in legal action.

A Timeline of the Abuse Charges Against Bill Cosby [Updated]

Thirty years ago this fall, The Cosby Show debuted on NBC, and its star was catapulted into the comedic stratosphere. The timing is prime, then, for the release of a sprawling biography. Written by former Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker, Cosby: His Life and Times documents the man’s rise from the Philadelphia projects, while also detailing the creation of his family sitcom and the murder of his son Ennis in 1997.
The book is notable, however, for its complete avoidance of sexual abuse allegations that have dogged Cosby for more than a decade. In a statement to Buzzfeed's Kate Aurthur, Whitaker says, "I didn’t want to print allegations that I couldn’t confirm independently." Regardless, their absence is glaring. Consider the following timeline an appendix to the book

How Selena Gomez Grew Up Right Before Our Eyes

Selena Gomez has created such a huge name for herself as a singer, big-screen actress, and style star that it's easy to forget that she got her start on the Disney Channel, playing the lead role of Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place from 2008 to 2012. Like any child star trying to navigate their way through adulthood in the public eye, Selena's life hasn't been without pitfalls; she spent time in a treatment center for two weeks back in January 2014, a stay that her rep said was "not for substance abuse," and has been at the center of rumors concerning her famous friendships with Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, and Demi Lovato, as well as her on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber (and let's not even get started on his recent career setbacks).
While Selena's journey has included its fair share of ups and downs, it's worth noting that the actress and singer seems to be experiencing a lot of the same things that many women in their early 20s go through; friends coming and going, relationships falling apart (and rekindling), doing a little partying, and even getting tattoos. We're taking a look back at Selena's evolution from cute Disney kid to smokin' hot Hollywood star.

International Channels Hook Up with NBC Newbie Comedy 'Marry Me'

Sony Pictures Television has closed licensing deals with channels in some 74 territories for the newbie comedy.

These include Canal Sony, which picked up the show for all of Latin America, a pan-African deal with pay TV firm OSN and an agreement with RTL CBS Entertainment, which will carry the show in 15 territories in the Asia Pacific region. In China, video streaming platform iQiyi.com has nabbed Marry Me.
So far, however, the show has only sold to a handful of free-to-air broadcasters in major territories, among them Channel 4 in the U.K., Global's Shaw Media in Canada and Australia's Seven Network.
NBC recently ordered more episodes of the freshman sitcom after it premiered in October to solid ratings, bringing in a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a total of 7.8 million overall viewers. While ratings have since dipped, Marry Me remains NBC's number one comedy this season and the number two new comedy overall among viewers aged 18-49.

Gold Derby Mvp: Snubbing Katey Sagal ('Sons of Anarchy') should get Emmys whacked

Last month, we took a moment to recognize Charlie Hunnam's underappreciated performance as Jax Teller on "Sons of Anarchy." But after Tuesday's penultimate episode, titled "Red Rose," we'd be remiss if we didn't also spotlight his biker mama Katey Sagal for her seven-year role of a lifetime. Played with a quiet subtlety that's often hard to find on TV, Sagal concluded her time on the dearly departing "Sons" this week. As Gemma Teller, Sagal gave her blood, sweat and tears each and every episode -- she even killed for our enjoyment -- yet Sagal's presence on the TV awards circuit is unfortunately stuck in neutral. -Break- News Nuggets: 'Sons of Anarchy' finale will be 'unpredictable and absolutely insane' Despite being a fan favorite and TV legend (for all you newbies, she got her start as Al Bundy's wife on "Married with Children"), Sagal only managed a single awards victory

“ Last year, more than 18.6 million viewers gathered to watch Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer sing their way through NBC's ambitious presentation of "The Sound of Music Live!" Judging by the reaction of social media, a fair number of those viewers were of the car-crash rubbernecker variety, and to say critics were underwhelmed is to put it mildly.

Then again, when was the last time 18.62 million viewers came together to watch a performance on NBC that was not related to a professional sport or an award show, let alone for a musical? Thus it was no surprise that NBC signed on for another live event, this time reaching for "Peter Pan," a musical with which it already has a bit of history. (A live 1955 telecast of the musical attracted an estimated 65 million viewers, said to be the highest rating for a single night program at that point in time.)

In 2014, "Girls" star Allison Williams takes on the role made famous by Sandy Duncan and Mary Martin, but what makes this a must-see is the sure-to-be-legendary performance of the uniquely fabulous Christopher Walken as Captain Hook.

Premiere: 8pm Thursday, December 4 on NBC, with an encore presentation at 8pm Saturday, December 13.

“ Wild has been on my must-see list since it premiered to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. When I saw the first trailer, I couldn't help but notice the similarities to Sean Penn's Into the Wild, the story of Christopher McCandless's journey to Alaska, one of my favorite films. But this film is no copycat. Based on a true story, the film documents Cheryl Strayed's 1,100-mile solo hike on the Pacific Crest trail. While the hike itself is enough to make me want to watch, the biggest draw for me is the fact that she takes this journey as a way to recover from the loss of her mother. Critics are already calling this Reese Witherspoon's best role of her career and I can't wait to see it.

“ Anita Diamant's retelling of the story of Dinah, the nearly-forgotten only daughter of Jacob, remains a book club staple some 17 years after it was first published. Given its perennial popularity and its enduring themes -- the bond between mothers and daughters, the unique connection women share with life, love, and blood -- it was only a matter of time before the novel became a movie. Lifetime has given Dinah's rich tale more than the standard full-length treatment, with two nights and four hours brimming with scene-chewing performances.

At its center, Rebecca Ferguson ably conveys the headstrong Dinah's naivete and pain without plunging the tale into cheap melodrama. She and the rest of the cast make the most Diamant's tale, but if the story isn't enough to seduce you, drinking in the costumes and vistas afforded by production's Morocco locations could be seductive enough to make one take a peek at this world for a little while.

Miniseries Premiere: 9pm Sunday, December 7 and and 9pm Monday, December 8 on Lifetime.

4.Inherent Vice (2014)
    8.3/10
In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles detective Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend. (148 mins.)

“ Inherent Vice is the latest movie from Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood. That fact alone should be enough to get you to the theater.

If that’s not doing it for you, consider the stellar cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone and Martin Short. Or consider the fact that those who have seen it have described it as a mix of Chinatown and The Big Lebowski. If you’re still on the fence, consider the movie’s strong reviews: as of late November, it had an 84 rating on Metacritic.

Still not convinced? Then Inherent Vice probably isn’t for you. For everyone else, its time to start counting down the days until this expands nationwide in January.

5.Top Five (2014)
    6.1/10
A comedian tries to make it as a serious actor when his reality-TV star fiancé talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her TV show.
Director: Chris Rock
 Image of Top Five
“ Four months ago, few people had heard of Top Five, which is writer/director Chris Rock’s first movie since 2007’s I Think I Love My Wife. That was before the movie premiered to rave reviews (93 on Metacritic) at the Toronto International Film Festival, after which Paramount purchased it at a hefty cost (reportedly over $12 million) and slated it for an end-of-year release.

The trailer is packed with all kinds of stars – including Tracy Morgan, who filmed his role here before his tragic accident – and is also loaded up with laughs. One particular gem comes at the end, when Cedric the Entertainer’s character tries (and fails) to steal hangers from a hotel room. It’s impossible to describe it here, but I’ve seen it a dozen times and can’t stop laughing about it.

The movie also appears to mix in some romance and drama, along with some commentary on fame and success. Add in the New York setting, and this seems like a broadly-appealing option for adults this holiday season.

6.Ascension (2014 Mini-Series)
    7.3/10
A young woman's murder causes the subjects of a century-long mission to populate a new world to question the true nature of the project as they approach the point of no return.
 Image of Ascension
“ Syfy presents an event series every December, but this one feels particularly ambitious. Upon one's first impression of "Ascension," it looks like another foray into space adventure territory, albeit with a retro twist: Sending 350 souls on a deep space odyssey that begins in 1963 means the architecture, interiors and fashion on the ship retain a "Mad Men"-flavor, minus the cigarette smoke, even in 2014.

More prevalent, and more interesting, is the series' examination of what happens when society is encapsulated at a specific point in time and completely removed from a larger world. Is that a benefit, or to its detriment? How do they evolve differently? What happens when the descendents of this mission, a generation born into their roles and forced to collaborate, experience a violent crime?

Concept is one thing, execution is another... and "Ascension" isn't perfect. The performances leave a bit to be desired, and even though it's an interesting concept, I'll admit that I struggled to get to the end of night one. So why is this a December pick?

Because the final scene of the premiere made me puzzle over everything else in the pilot, including whether the flat affectations of the group on the ship versus the actors left on Earth are intentional. Perhaps I'm just making excuses for bad acting so I'll have a reason to tune in for night two. Point being, in spite of its flaws, I want to see where this mission goes, and I suspect you might as well.

Miniseries Premiere: 9pm Monday, December 15, 9pm Tuesday, December 16 and 9pm Wednesday, December 17 on Syfy

Bilbo and Company are forced to be engaged in a war against an array of combatants and keeping the terrifying Smaug from acquiring a kingdom of treasure. and obliterating all of Middle-Earth.
Director: Peter Jackson
Image of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Confessions of a former Unexpected Journey hater: It was The Desolation of Smaug that helped me to re-engage with Bilbo and the Dwarves and remember that, with the release of Five Armies, it will soon be possible to watch the entire Hobbit/LOTR saga in proper sequential order.

Not to mention that the titular battle should be the best extended scene rendered on the big screen this year.

And if "Regal Armor" Thorin is made available as a toy, I'll buy two (one to keep in its packaging, the other to cast love spells upon). The same goes for Bard in any form.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies opens in theaters on December 19. ”

8.The Interview (2014)
Dave Skylark and his producer Aaron Rapoport run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un. (112 mins.)
 Image of The Interview
Over the Christmas holiday, the studios are releasing three major movies targeted at family audiences: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Annie, and Into the Woods. As a counterweight to that, Sony is releasing The Interview, an R-rated comedy starring James Franco and Seth Rogen (who is also writing/directing with This is the End partner Evan Goldberg).

The movie finds Franco and Rogen on a mission from the CIA to “take out” North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, which is a set-up that’s received plenty of criticism from the North Korean government: after the first trailer was released online, a spokesperson equated it to an “act of war.” The movie doesn’t appear to take itself that seriously, though: the latest trailer features the dictator gifting Franco a puppy, then driving around in a tank singing Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

That may not be your cup of tea: political satire is a notoriously inaccessible genre, and Rogen and Franco aren’t for everyone, either. For me, though, this is undeniably one of the few must-see movies of the holiday season this year.

9.Unbroken (2014)
    6.8/10
A chronicle of the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. (137 mins.)
Director: Angelina Jolie

Once you hear about the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II, it's pretty hard to not take interest in this film. As soon as I heard that Joel and Ethan Coen were collaborating with Angelina Jolie to write the script for Unbroken, that pretty much sealed the deal for me. The first footage from the trailer is absolutely breath-taking although I am a bit worried about the violence. Apparently it's so intense at parts that the audience has gasped out loud. But at the same time, I like the fact that Angelina did not shy away from showing that horror he endured but instead showed the strength of the man who had the courage to survive.

Unbroken opens in theaters on December 26.

    7.5/10
Sandra, a young Belgian mother, discovers that her workmates have opted for a significant pay bonus, in exchange for her dismissal. She has only one weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses so that she can keep her job. (95 mins.)
Image of Two Days, One Night
Marion Cotillard is developing a truly international career and her starring in a new film from the Dardenne brothers is the kind of event that should result in curious, reverent audiences packed into cramped theaters throughout the holidays and into the new year. Cotillard is definitely in the dark-horse Oscar pool for Best Actress too. Is it leading to say that this is the kind of story that would never be made in the U.S.?

11.Big Eyes (2014)
    7.4/10
A drama centered on the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.
Director: Tim Burton
 Image of Big Eyes
When Tim Burton went back to the Frankenweenie world, some of us wondered -- and hoped -- his career might experience a sea change and the masterful storyteller would look to more original and peculiar stories for his new projects. So here we are with Burton's latest, an attempt to correct a chapter of art history that saw Walter Keane take credit for his wife Margaret's influential paintings, and his first indie studio project since ... since ... forever?

Everyone wins here: Burton, weary Burton loyalists, leads Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, the supporting cast led by Krysten Ritter, and Margaret Keane's legacy. Though perhaps her Wikipedia page says it all: "Margaret D. H. Keane ... is an American artist ..." while her former husband's reads: "Walter Stanley Keane ... was an American plagiarist who became famous in the 1950s for claiming he had painted a series of widely-reproduced paintings depicting vulnerable waifs with enormous eyes."
