1. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' could contend for at least six Oscars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ... the original "Star Wars" (1977) broke through to tremendous fan and critical support and wound up starting a multi-generational six-film franchise that amassed a total seven Oscar wins, 22 nominations and three special achievement awards. Those numbers will likely grow next year when Disney releases "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" next December.

Based on Oscar history, we can expect the new flick to be competetive in these key categories: Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Score and Best Art Direction.

George Lucas reaped a Best Director nod in 1977 for the first film, which could bode well for new director J.J. Abrams, a Hollywood favorite (and Emmy winner for directing "Lost") who's never received an Oscar nomination. Yet.

Here's a look at how the first six "Star Wars" films did at the Oscars. It's worth noting that while all of the films reaped at least one Oscar nomination, the last one to take home a competitive trophy was the second in the series -- "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980

3. "The Walking Dead" Rick wants to find a peaceful agreement, but the enemies seem to prefer a more violent resolution. (AMC, 9pm Sunday - new)

4."Family Guy" Peter is hired to read Joe's new book to children, and Brian takes up running to impress a girl. (Fox, 9pm Sunday - new)

5. "The Mentalist" Jane and Lisbon decide to keep their new relationship a secret from their colleagues as they investigate the murder of an undercover agent, and a young new agent joins the team. (CBS, 9:30pm Sunday - new)

6. "Revenge" Emily and Victoria learn that information is the most dangerous weapon while Nolan offers up information of his own in order to salvage his reputation. (ABC, 10pm Sunday - new)
